DuWayne Edward Evenson, age 84, died Saturday, April 11, 2020. A private memorial service will be held with DuWayne’s family. A public visitation will be Friday, October 23, 2020 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, MN. Interment is open to the public on Saturday October 24, 2020 for those who wish to attend and will be at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery in Easton, MN at 12:15 PM, Military Honors will be accorded by the Easton American Legion Post. DuWayne Edward was born March 25, 1936, to Edven and Annie (O’Toole) Evenson in Elmore, MN. He passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2020 at Good Shepherd in Sauk Rapids, MN. He was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Easton, MN. He attended country school then high school in Minnesota Lake. DuWayne proudly served in the United States Navy. He was united in marriage to Mary Lou Rose on August 5, 1961 in Morgan, MN. They enjoyed 20 years of marriage and were blessed with five children. On April 20, 1986, he married Elizabeth Boertje, who had six children. They enjoyed 33 years of marriage.
DuWayne farmed for 50 years near Minnesota Lake, MN raising crops, hogs, cattle, Springer Spaniel and Shar Pei puppies. After his children were grown, he married Elizabeth and farmed with stepsons Rick and Kevin. He was very active in his community particularly as a member of the Lions Club, a Little League coach, and serving on the Minnesota Lake school board. DuWayne enjoyed hunting in Alaska, Wyoming, Colorado and Minnesota with family and friends. He enjoyed photography and darkroom work (including developing President Eisenhower’s reelection photo), skiing, running, biking, swimming, and golfing. He competed in many 5K and 10K races, duathalons and triathalons throughout the country. He was able to enjoy these hobbies in Minnesota and while wintering in Arizona. He was an avid traveler exploring many parts of the world including Africa, Australia, South America, Europe, and all corners of the United States. Above all, DuWayne loved his family and looked forward to their visits, particularly when they all gathered for Festag.
He is survived by his children: Yancy (Janel) of Fairmont, WV, Kyle of Blue Earth, MN, Joni of Omaha, NE, Kam (JoAnn) of St. Cloud, MN, Shawn (Diana) of Minneapolis, MN, stepchildren: Jude (Randal), Rodney (Patricia), Greg (Michelle), Julie, Kevin (Julie), Eric (Chriss), grandchildren: Chelsea Evenson, Jacey (Brandon) Curry, Adrianna Johnson, Kayla (Justin) Lane, Kendra Johnson, Jaden Evenson, Haley Evenson, Hannah Evenson, Sofia Evenson, Mark Evenson, great grandchildren: Nova Evenson, Charlotte Lane, and Grayson Vieth, 8 step-grandchildren and 7 step-great grandchildren, siblings: Dorthy Evenson and Donald Evenson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Robert Evenson and Mildred Brillinger, and spouses.
