Carol Barbara Lackey, age 82, formerly of Wells, MN died Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Homestead Hospice in Owatonna, MN. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 17, 2020 with Pastor Mary Iverson officiating. Interment will be at Rosehill Cemetery in Wells, MN. Social distancing guidelines will be observed and facemasks must be worn. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is entrusted with services. Carol Barbara was born September 9, 1938 in Havana Twp., Steele Co., MN, the daughter of Albert and Alma (Slezak) Kubat. Carol was confirmed and baptized April 7, 1955 at the Presbyterian Church in Owatonna, MN. She married Fred Lackey on May 2, 1968 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells, MN. Carol worked at Swift-Eckrich for over 26 years. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. Carol loved going to garage sales and dining out with her friends. She enjoyed crafts, watching country western movies and listening to country music. Carol also was a lover of birds and animals.
Carol is survived by brothers: Willis (Verna) Yule of Owatonna, MN, Lyle Kubat of St. Paul, MN and Bob (Janet) Kubat of Rochester, MN; twin daughters: Dora (Ron) Fowler of Truman, MN and Donna (David) Fisher of Bakersfield, CA; 5 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and their families.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; husband Fred Lackey (2001); brother Vince Kubat (1996).

Linda and I send our sympathies to Carol’s surviving family. While we were not close Cousins due to the 10 year age spread, I enjoyed catching up with her at the Kubat reunions. What a witty and enjoyable lady.
