Harlan William was born September 24, 1945 in Mankato, MN to George and Goldie (Sohre) Proehl. During his high school years he farmed with his father and brothers. After graduating from high school, Harlan proudly served in the National Guard for 2 years. Following his enlistment, he returned home and continued to farm. Harlan met Melanie Mortensen and in the fall of 1967 married and moved to rural Mapleton where he resided until his death. To this union two children were born, Aaron and Crystal. The couple later divorced.
He met Mary Luna and joined our family in 2001. This union brought 4 bonus children and 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Harlan had a love for fishing. When the children were young, they would spend many weekends at their cabin on Lake Washington and went on several yearly fishing trips to the Boundary Waters, Devils Lake and the Missouri River with family and his close lifelong friends. He loved to spend time visiting his daughter in Brainerd and teaching his grandchildren to fish. He enjoyed farming with his son and grandson, Quentin. Harlan served and was President of the Pork Producers, he was very active in his church serving on the Medo Church Board and taught Sunday school until its recent closure. Harlan enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing on a dart league and spending time with his family and most of all, he loved talking. He enjoyed having his new great grandson, Payton.
