John was born September 4, 1942 the son of Lester and Caroline (Malecha) Bartell in Glenwood, MN. He graduated from St. Cloud Tech High School and attended St. Cloud State. After his two year military service, including his tour in Vietnam, he settled in Minneapolis and met his wife Karen. They were married May 24, 1969 and were married for 54 years. To this union, two sons were born. After living in Minneapolis for 18 years, the family transferred to Orlando, Florida for 22 years. After building their dream home in the mountains of North Carolina, they lived there for 9 years before moving back to Minnesota after his diagnosis of Alzheimer’s. John’s career centered around the banking industry. He loved spending time with his family and his pets were very important to him. He was a very talented woodworker and enjoyed refinishing antiques and building furniture.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Joyce and Janice Bartell; mother and father-in-law, Arnold and Marian Redig; sister-in-law Gayle Redig; and brother-in-law Allan Redig.
He is survived by his wife Karen (Redig) Bartell; sons: Timothy (Jennette) Bartell and Matthew (Wendi) Bartell; grandchildren: Abigail & Alexander Bartell; sisters and brothers-in-law: Mike (Pat) Redig, Brian Redig, Dean (Julie) Redig; and many nieces and nephews.
John was a fine man and an example to other men. We were privileged to know both John and Karen for the nine years in Murphy, NC while they were in their dream mountain home. They remain in our hearts.

Dear Bartell Family –
I’m so sorry for your loss and remember John very well when I worked for him at First Federal in downtown Minneapolis. We had that “Wells” connection, which made it even more fun to work alongside him (man…that was in the mid to late 1970s). We also had Faye in our department and a couple mortgage loan collectors (bankers in training!) I introduced John to one of the best sub sandwiches in the downtown area! I think we both ate more than we should have!!
Working with John was a great experience. Please accept my condolences.
