Arnold John Carlson, Age 91, of Wells, MN passed away Thursday, August 8th, 2024 at The Shepherd’s Inn Assisted Living in Wells. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 15, 2024 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Nasinec Funeral Home in Wells, MN and prior to the service at church from 10:00-11:00 AM. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells, MN with Pastor Vern Christopherson officiating. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery in Wells, MN with Military Honors accorded by the Wells Area Color Guard.
Arnold was born 7/31/1933 in Corvuso, MN to Gustaf and Lillian Carlson. He graduated from Litchfield High School in 1951 and received his MA and MS degrees in agriculture at the University of Minnesota. He served in the US. Army for 2 years and then moved to Wells in 1957 to teach High School VO-AG. Arnie married Jean Matz on July 6,1958 at First Lutheran Church in Wells. After teaching high school Vo-AG for 9 years, he started the Wells Adult Vo-AG Farm Management Program through the Wells public school system. In 1983, Arnie moved the farm management program to Peoples State Bank of Wells and worked there until his retirement in 2004. He thoroughly enjoyed working with the farmers and conducting the Wells Test Plots for 50 years.
Over the years, Arnie was very active in the Wells Jaycees, Wells Chamber of Commerce, Wells Lions Club and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He served as commissioner on the Wells Utility Board and volunteered for the Wells Ambulance Service. In recent years, he enjoyed helping people with income taxes through the AARP program.
Through the years, Arnie’s main enjoyment was his children and grandchildren and loved spending time at their activities in sports, music and plays.
Arnie is preceded in death by his parents; father and mother in-law: Ben and Ione Matz; sisters- in-law: VaLois Carlson, Ginny Carlson and Margaret Carlson; and brother in-law Duane Matz.
Arnie is survived by his loving wife, Jean; children: Dale (LeAnn) of Park Rapids, MN, Mona (Adam) Salazar or St. Paul, MN, Tom (Julie) of Peoria, AZ; Steve (Maureen) of St. Peter, MN; 9 grandchildren: Breanna (Andy) Larson, Danielle (Steve) Weber, Mackenzie (Kip) Thorstenson, Joe (Jayme) Carlson, Sam Carlson, Jay (Ashley) Carlson, Megan (Josh) Muhich, Matthew (Catherine) Carlson, Amelia Carlson; 10 great-grandchildren: Alaina, Adelynn and John Larson; Leo and Shea Thorstenson; Logan and Levi Carlson; Blake Weber; Elizabeth and Lucas Muhich; brothers: Herald and Lester; sister-in-law Irene Matz.
So sorry to hear that Arnie has passed. We were so glad to get to know him when we lived in Wells and always enjoyed our times with him at Lions and at the bank when he helped us with our taxes! Praying that Jean and the family will find comfort in all of the good memories that they have, and knowing that Arnie is now in the presence of his Lord Jesus!
So sorry to hear about Arnie. I loved it when he would come in the store and we would go back and forth about if I was going to give them free that day.
My Sincerest and Heartfelt Sympathies to the families of Arnie! He was truly a voice in Agriculture and a great mentor through the years, with both teaching and adult Vo-Ag ! Many, many great memories were made with him. Many test plots planted and harvested with him. Arnie was one of the most admired person in my Life. Thank you Arnie, God Bless the Families, R.I.P until we meet again!
