Faith, Family and Farm were three pillars Paul built the foundation of his life upon. Paul Samuel was born October 17, 1927 in Cherry Grove, MN, the son of William and Esther (Sydow) Scrabeck. When he was a young boy, his family moved to a farm near Kiester, where he grew up and graduated from high school, the Class of 1946. Growing up, Paul was a faithful member of Rice Lake Church. He joined the Wells Assembly of God Church and this was where he met Dorothy. On November 25, 1949, Paul was united in marriage to Dorothy Culbertson. The couple farmed near Kiester until 1956 when they purchased their farm in Alden, MN. After Dorothy’s death in 2001, Paul moved into Alden and rented out the farm.
Paul was an active, faithful member of Wells Assembly of God. After retirement from farming, he found his calling when he started volunteering. He enjoyed talking with men and women and bringing the word of God to them in the nursing homes. He worked with Hospice, Blue Earth YFC, and the Albert Lea Ride Service which he did faithfully for 10+ years. He shared scriptures, songs and poems to the residents of area nursing facilities; Good Samaritan Center and St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea as well as The Friendship Home and The Shepherd’s Inn in Wells. Those who were privileged to know Paul, knew he treasured the love of Christ, his family and the farm and will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Dorothy (2001), his eldest son Rev. Steven (2006), his siblings: LaVerne (Ruth), John, Esther Scrabeck, and Ruth Lyons; and great-grandson Sammy Lucido.
Paul is survived by his children: Cherilyn (Keith) Bruzelius of Lorain, OH, Jenell (Cal) Cleveland of Utica, SD, Bob Scrabeck of Bricelyn, MN, daughter-in-law Lila Scrabeck of Rockton, IL; 14 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren; siblings: Verna Carter of Ocala, FL, Mary Ann Ohm of Alden, MN, Charles (Kay) Scrabeck of Naselle, WA, Carolyn Weller of Alden, MN; sister-in-law Lilah Scrabeck, Lorna Wermedal both of N. Mankato, MN; brother-in-law Vernon Lyons of Chicago, IL; numerous nieces and nephews along with their families.

Our Sympathy to Paul’s Family.
I had the privilege to serve as a hospice volunteer with Paul for many years.
This was one of his many endeavors of
faithfully serving our community.
“Well done, good and faithful servant!”
He certainly had a life well lived.
My deepest condolences to all of Paul’s Family,
I had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know Paul back in 2002, when he was a Hospice volunteer and served our family when my father (Stanley Nielsen) was gravely ill. His genuine warmth, deep faith, love of family and friends, sense of humor, kindness and that he was so easy to share conversations with is what I remember the most about Paul. After my father passed, he remained a family friend and he and my mother became friendly companions for several years. He was an angel on Earth and certainly is an angel in Heaven! He was loved by many and will be missed by all who shared his life’s journey with.
