Eugene J. Casterton entered eternal rest Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at St. John’s Lutheran Community in Albert Lea, Minnesota. A private interment will take place at Plymouth Rock Cemetery in Cresco, Iowa. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Radiation Oncology Department Staff and the staff at St. John’s Lutheran Community in Albert Lea, MN for their compassionate care.

Eugene Joseph “Gene” Casterton, born May 13, 1943, in Oakland, California and was the cherished son of Gayle and Alice Casterton and grew up alongside his siblings: Jerry (Marcia), Lois (Chuck) Klein, and Theresa (Dennis) Neumann. He deeply valued the relationships he shared with his many nieces, nephews, and cousins throughout his life.

A longtime resident of Clarks Grove, Minnesota, and later Mason City, Iowa, Gene dedicated over sixty years to a distinguished career as a truck driver. His steadfast work ethic and commitment to his profession left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

On November 28, 1964, Gene married Darlene Casterton. Together they shared 28 years of marriage and raised three children: David, Alan (Amy), and Angie (Craig Padgett). Gene found great joy in fatherhood and was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren—Loren Lynch (Le), Brockton (Cara), Colton (Lyndsey), Tanner, Davis, Dakota, and Phoenix (Ben)—and a great-grandfather to seven great-grandchildren: Noel, Milo, Clara, Lucas, Liam, Jameson, and Thatcher.

In 1995, Gene remarried Mary Papouchis in Mason City, Iowa. Through this union, he welcomed two stepchildren into his life: Tony Papouchcis and Teresa Cooley. He also became a step-grandfather to five step-grandchildren: Brianna (Daniel) Hansen, Peyton (Hunter Schaer), Tyson, Acacia and Brighton. He became a step-great-grandfather to two step-great-grandchildren: LettieMarie and Hazel.

Gene was preceded in death by his wife Mary; his son David; his parents Gayle and Alice; and niece Megan.

His life was defined by resilience, devotion to family, and an enduring spirit of hard work. May Gene’s memory bring peace and comfort to all who loved him.
