Mildred Augusta Bertha (Bruckhoff) Stencel, age 103, of Minnesota Lake, MN, went home to God Thursday, June 22, 2023 at the Mapleton Community Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at 11:00 AM with Father Greg Havel officiating at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Minnesota Lake, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Church. Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.
Mildred was born September 6, 1919, a daughter to Robert and Marie (Rabenhort) Bruckhoff in Mapleton, MN. She was baptized October 19, 1919 and confirmed March 25, 1934 in Peace United Church of Christ in Minnesota Lake. Mildred graduated from Minnesota Lake High School, the class of 1937. Mildred was united in marriage to George A. Stencel, November 12, 1940 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Minnesota Lake. She and George farmed together until they retired in 1975. She had also worked at Al’s Grocery in Mapleton, worked for Nordaas American Home cleaning offices, then transitioned to Nordaas Cabinet Shop making cabinet doors. When the shop moved, she went to Freeborn and worked there until she finally retired in 1989. Her hobbies included gardening, baby sitting, and baking. Her chocolate cake and apple pie were must have desserts. She loved her garden and her flowers and especially babysitting for family and friends.
Mildred is survived by two sons: Dale Stencel of Augusta, GA, and Alan (Rose) Stencel of Minnesota Lake, MN; daughter, Beverly Stencel of Minnesota Lake, MN; daughter-in-law, Faye Stencel of Marshal, MN; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law: Gwen Bruckhoff of Waseca; along with many nieces, nephews, and their families.
She is preceded in death by her husband George; son, Byron, brothers: Wilmer “Pete” (Fern) Bruckhoff, Harold (Alice) Bruckhoff, and Robert “Bobby” Bruckhoff; twin sister, Hildred (Alfred) Hoechst; and daughter-in-law, Jean Stencel.
She was a wonderful lady along with her husband George. They always treated me like one of their sons. She will always be in my thoughts & prayers.
