Jean A. Bartholomew was 89 when she passed away on Feb. 17, at her home in Mapleton, MN, surrounded by her family. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, February 23, 2024 at 11:00AM at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Mapleton with Father Swaminatha Pothireddy officiating.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Mapleton.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

     Jean Ann was born Sept. 22, 1934, the daughter of Richard and Doris (Durkee) Whitney.  She enjoyed her childhood at the family farm on the county line, while attending Graceland Country School up to 8th grade.  She graduated from Mapleton High School in 1952.  Jean attended the Minneapolis School of Business then worked at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.

   Jean Ann married Richard Bartholomew February 14, 1956 at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Mapleton.  Together they celebrated 68 years of marriage.  She worked at Hillcrest Nursing Home and the Mapleton Community Home.  Jean Ann loved riding horses. Her favorite, was Black Beauty, she enjoyed horse relay races with the Saddle Club.  She also enjoyed curling, playing bridge, selling Avon, watching old Westerns, gardening, dancing a waltz or polka, and decorating for all the holidays with fun lights inside and outside the house.  Jean Ann and Dick enjoyed traveling south in the winter for many years.  You could often hear Jean Ann saying “do dee dah” or “that’s my story and I’m sticking to it”.  Jean cherished her family time and was always up for get togethers.  You would never leave her house hungry.

     Jean Ann is survived by her husband of 68 years, Richard; son Karmen (Kim) Bartholomew of Mapleton, daughter, Linda (Mike) Reynolds of Delavan, son Bradley of Mapleton, daughter, Amy (Trace) Robbins of Easton; 9 grandchildren: Kari, Sara, Shayne, Brandon, Michaela, Jordan, Matthew, Dacotah, Jesse; 2 great-grandchildren, Delaney Kantack and Bowen Reynolds; sister, Pattie Krengel, brother, Richard Whitney; sisters-in-law: Monica Marske, BeaAnn Alschlager and Margie Benson.

     She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Dorothy Dale.
