Jerry Allen Becker was born November 20, 1947, the son of Clarence and Olga (Wigern) Becker in Albert Lea. He attended and graduated from Kiester High School in 1965. He enjoyed participating in football and wrestling and was the border league champ for the Kiester Bulldogs.
As a youngster, he and his dad spent many hours trapping and hunting. Many good times were spent hunting with friends in adulthood. As a “Papa” he spent quality time fishing with his grandsons and teaching them “life lessons”. He had numerous jobs over the years working at Winnebago Industries, NFO buying station in Wells, and various Post Offices in the area, but his favorite job was farming. He spent much of his younger years working on the farm with his uncles where he milked cows, crop farmed, raised hogs, and learned many valuable lessons. Many of his stories were from his time farming.
Jerry was an amazing and inventive cook and craftsman. He was also a firm believer that “you don’t need no stinkin’ recipe” and made many fabulous meals. He refinished many pieces of furniture, turning them into masterpieces for family and friends to cherish- whether they were antiques or salvaged from the shed. He took up the craft of wood carving and created gifts to share with friends and family.
Jerry was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in rural Frost, where he was a Sunday School teacher, and served on the council. He sat on the Cemetery Board and was President of the congregation. He served as Rome Township Clerk/Treasurer for many years and was on the board for St. Luke’s Care Center. He had a deep love for his family and God.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; sisters Judy (Ron) Matson and Linda (Michael) Hunter; 2 nephews: Michael Hunter Jr., and Dan Thompson; and parents-in-law Lloyd and Margaret Larson.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Gloria Becker of Bricelyn; children, Travis Becker and Jennifer (Mark) Johnson, all of Bricelyn; grandchildren, AJ Johnson of Clarks Grove, MN, and Tyler Johnson of Albert Lea; several grand cats; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families.
Thought and Prayers to Gloria and Family. Jerry was one of my classmates. We were in charge of a couple class reunions …GO BULLDOGS. RIP 💙
Sending caring thoughts and sincere condolences to you, Gloria, and your family as you lovingly say goodbye to Jerry.
Jerry and I were good friends when we very young. My sympathy to his family
Oh Jerry will be missed. My prayers & thoughts are with Gloria! My sympathy to your family!
Sending condolences to the family of Jerry who was a classmate at Kiester High School. When we were seniors a few of us hung out in Mrs. Glende’s classroom for lunch. Most were wrestlers like Jerry trying to make weight for the various meets. Jerry would always have a story or two to share to liven up the time.
