Joan was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Joan was born March 18, 1937 to Lyman and Ethel Walker in Alden, MN. Joan attended college in Winona for nursing but found her calling in being a teacher. Joan and Harold Germann were united in marriage on December 28, 1959 and were married for 63 wonderful years. Together, they raised their family in Wells, MN where they farmed the land. Joan taught elementary school in Alden, MN for many years in addition to helping Harold on the family farm. In 1999, they moved to Sauk Rapids, MN to enjoy their retirement along the waters of the Mississippi River. Living on the river brought Harold, Joan and their family many great moments and memories over the course of her life. Joan was an avid card player and participated in multiple bridge clubs and regular card parties. She loved flowers, her gardens, and reading; but it was her grandchildren that brought her the most joy.
Joan is survived by her dear husband Harold (Sauk Rapids, MN); son Jeff Germann (Holly) of Andover, MN; daughter Nancy Kohls (Perry) of Sartell, MN; grandchildren Zach Kohls, Abby Levercom (Kevin), Quinn Germann, Keegan Germann, and great-granddaughter Hadley Levercom.
A strong woman of faith, Joan is preceded in death by her parents Ethel and Lyman Walker, her sister Lorraine Provo, brother Franklin Walker, brother-in-law Don Provo, sister-in-law Genevieve Walker, sister-in-law Janice Lindahl, brother-in-law Bill Lindahl, and her dear uncle Conrad (Connie) Envoldsen.
Joanie Germann was a very special lady and a very dear friend to us. They visited us in TX several times and we always enjoyed their visits. We will miss Joanie. May Joanie now rest in peace!
I taught school with Joan in Alden in the 1970’s. She was such a sweet lady and I enjoyed my many visits with her. May God grant your family strength, comfort and peace.
My sympathies to your whole family. My thought and prayers are with you all. I did not know Joan but know Nancy, Perry, Zach, and Abby. They are great people. Joan must of been a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother to raise these great people.
Germann family. So sorry to hear of the loss of you mom. Remember brother Kurt and I bean walking.
Never easy to lose a parent but you get to keep those great memories. They are alway with you, just a thought away.
I’ve had the good pleasure of knowing Joan for the last 17 years and in that time have had the great pleasure of meeting and getting to know many members of her family. She was always so full of life and energy, funny, and very kind to me. She was one of those Salt of the Earth people that loved living on the Mighty Mississippi! I am truly at better person for having known Joan and will miss her dearly.
