Bonita (Bonnie) Ann Schuster was born August 21, 1940 to John and Mary (Spartz) Loke. She grew up on the farm with her 4 siblings northeast of Milroy, MN. Bonnie graduated from Milroy High School in 1958 and then graduated from Mankato State Teaching School. She taught in Sherburn and in Albert Lea. While teaching in Albert Lea, she met her future husband Lowell. They were married on August 20, 1966. Lowell and Bonnie raised four children: Christine, Peter, Mary and Mark on their family farm southwest of Freeborn.
Bonnie had a wide variety of interests. She subbed for Freeborn Schools and then was on the school board when Freeborn School District became United South Central. She was a CCD teacher, served on various church boards and was a lector. Bonnie valued faith and education.
After being on the school board, Bonnie took the challenge of establishing a 10 page newsletter called the Freeborn Frisbee. Published quarterly, it contained community news plus a healthy dose of history. Bonnie loved history so much that she researched nearly all of the local cemeteries, obituaries and/or death notices. Since she wanted people to have access to this, she compiled them into books. She was proud of the fact the Freeborn Frisbee ran from 1998-2023.
Bonnie and Lowell were so proud of their family. One of her most cherished memories was being able to donate a kidney to her daughter Christine in 1987.
She is preceded in death by her husband Lowell (2024); her parents; and brother James Loke.
Bonnie is survived by her children: Christine of Wells, Father Peter Schuster of Slayton, Mary of California and Mark (Shana) of Wells; three sisters: Patricia (Phillip) Gleason, Helen (James) Gerdes and Mary Ellen (Clarence) Slama.

“I am the breeze that kisses your cheek. When the birds sweetly sing, it is my voice caressing you. Feel the air that surrounds you, for I, your Lord, envelope you in My love. And feel the love in your heart, it is I, your Lord, glowing in you.” Bonnie left us all a glowing legacy in the cemetery history books she gave to the community. I was honored to share in the compiling of one of them. I know she is looking down from heaven encouraging us along the way. My prayers are with you during this time.
