Kathryn “Kathy” May was born May 17, 1941 to Merle H. and Geneva (Hanson) Shirk in Albert Lea, MN. She grew up on the family farm near Bricelyn and graduated Bricelyn High School with the class of 1959. Kathryn was united in marriage to Roger Johnson in 1960 and to this union three children were born, Mark, Julie, and Michael. Roger and Kathryn were later divorced, and she married Ora Keever October 24, 1993.
Kathryn had a love for sewing and baking, she made sure to have some Norwegian rice pudding, lemon pie, homemade buns, corn and macaroni hot dish or chocolate dessert ready when the family would get together. Kathryn enjoyed watching shopping channels with a nice can of Coke and to toe tap and dance to her favorite music. Kathryn immensely enjoyed her time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always had chocolate pudding and fresh whipped cream ready when they came to visit and she looked forward to long phone calls with friends and family. The whole family will miss her dearly.
Kathryn is preceded in death by her parents, husband Ora Keever; and her sister Lorna Montzka.
Kathryn is survived by her children: Mark Johnson, Julie (Mark) Sahr, and Michael (Amber) Johnson; 11 grandchildren: Nickolaus (Heather) Johnson, Amanda Johnson (Dan Smith), Michelle Johnson; Brandon (Jasmin) Sahr, Douglas (Ann) Sahr, Nathan (Loy) Sahr, Valerie Sahr (Jake Knutson); Meghan (Kyle) Begin, Miranda (Trenton) Stindtman, Clayton Johnson, and Carson Johnson (Kylan); 24 great-grandchildren: Kolter and Korbin Johnson; Dayton, Ruxin, Byron, and Auden Smith; Ariel, Sawyer, Lucy, Kebeh, Christian, Isla, and Fern Sahr; Norah and Hannah Sahr; Wyatt, Willow, Wesley, Wren, and Waylon Sahr; Amaya, Malakai, and Nina Knutson; and Monroe Stindtman; sister: Karen (Jim) Shirk-Hoffman; brother-in-law: Carl Montzka; along with many nieces, nephews, and their families.
Our deepest sympathy to Kathy’s entire family! She would bring my mom yards of fabric & my mom would sew it up for quilts for the quilters at Bricelyn Lutheran Church. Blessed be her memory!
