Carol Ann was born on July 10, 1943 in Wells, Minnesota to Theodore and Evelyn Beckmann. She grew up with her brother Donald in Wells, graduating from Wells High School before attending Beauty School in Mankato. Carol met Cecil at a card club, and they married on May 18, 1962. Early in her marriage to Cecil, Carol and her husband faced a profound loss with the passing of their infant daughter, Caren Ann. The sorrow of losing Caren Ann remained with Carol throughout her life, shaping her experiences and leaving a lasting impact on her heart.
The couple settled in Kiester, where Carol ran a home beauty shop for many years. She was musically talented, playing organ for over 40 years at church events, weddings, and funerals in Kiester and Mansfield.
Carol was known for her hands-on approach to home improvement, confidently tackling various projects around her house. She was skilled with power tools and often chose to complete renovations herself, adding her own distinctive touch to her living space through creative decoration.
In addition to her DIY abilities, Carol was an accomplished seamstress. She meticulously crafted most of her own clothing, demonstrating exceptional attention to detail and precision in her stitching. Her handmade garments often surpassed store-bought clothing in quality, and she took great pride in both the process and the finished pieces. Carol enjoyed wearing her creations, often pairing them with stylish high-heeled shoes.
Carol’s passion for fashion extended beyond sewing. She kept up with the latest hair and clothing trends, maintained an active lifestyle, and delighted in shopping for the perfect accessories to complement her outfits.
Carol valued her family above all else, maintaining a strong bond with her brother and sister-in-law. Their close relationship was evident in the time they spent together, frequently sharing meals, playing cards, and catching up on the latest happenings within their lives. These moments reflected Carol’s appreciation for togetherness and her commitment to nurturing family ties.
Carol is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Cecil Simonson of Kiester, MN; one son, Barry Simonson of Kiester, MN; sister-in-law, Bonnie Beckmann of Wells, MN; 2 nieces and a nephew: Sharie Ylvisaker (and her child, Ona) of Rochester, MN, Carrie Beckmann (husband Jim Doten) of Crystal, MN, and Don Beckmann (children Eric and Jaret) of Wells, MN; Cecil’s siblings and their families: Donna (Don) Hollard, Barb Engebretson, and Rose Hendircksen.
I am so very sorry for your loss. I used to bowl with Carol back in the day and knew Cecil from golfing in Lake Mills. Prayers and hugs! God bless~
Carol was a special childhood friend. We were neighbors growing up, and special school friends. She played organ at my wedding and also at a nephew’s wedding. We’ve kept in touch for many years. She’ll be missed.
Sorry for your loss.
We are so sorry for your loss. Carol was very special to us. She made the trip up to Crookston to play for our wedding. She made friends quickly, even writing a little ditty about some smaller towns around us….Climax, Gentilly, Fertile… She was the life of the party and will be missed!!
Such a talented lady! She will definitely be missed!
